Chain reaction causes multiple motor vehicle accidents in Raleigh

Officers detained a driver who attempted to flee on foot after a high-speed crash in Raleigh. According to a police report, the incident that caused multiple motor vehicle accidents occurred on a recent Wednesday morning. Reportedly, the fleeing 18-year-old driver now faces charges that include failure to reduce speed, reckless driving and felony hit-and-run.

The police state in a preliminary crash report that one officer was working an accident at an intersection when two other speeding vehicles approached the area. Without slowing down, one of them smashed into the rear of a car that was stopped at the crash scene. A chain reaction reportedly followed the impact of the rear-end collision, involving five other stationary vehicles.

Further reports indicate that a total of nine vehicles were damaged in the multi-car crash that took place shortly before 11:15 a.m. Authorities say the incident caused injuries to 10 people who were all transported to several hospitals for medical evaluation and treatment of their injuries. No information was provided on the types or severity of the injuries they suffered.
